Less than two hours from Portland airport, ground transportation is scenic and easy year-round via Interstate 84 east through the Columbia River Gorge to The Dalles.
  From The Dalles, head south on U.S. 197 for 38 miles. Turn west on Highway 216 until you reach Milepost 19 and Walters Corner Store. Go south one mile, turn east, go one mile, and turn in the driveway.
